At Chinook Goldens, our dogs are at the heart of everything we do. Each one is carefully chosen for health, temperament, and companionship, and together they make up the foundation of our breeding program. We’re proud to be fully transparent about their backgrounds—if you’d like to see detailed health and genetic information, simply visit K9data.com and type in the name of any of our dogs.
Depending on their cycles, our females’ first breeding usually takes place between 20 – 26 months, after they have had satisfactory hip/elbow x-rays and eye certifications. Our policy is to have approximately one litter per year.

Field vs. Show: Understanding the difference
Golden Retrievers come in two main strains: the American Field Retriever and the British Show Retriever. While they share the same loving temperament that makes Goldens so beloved, there are a few key differences in appearance and personality.
Field Goldens tend to be slimmer, more athletic, and lighter than their British show counterparts. Their coats often carry deeper, richer color blends, and when kept in trim, males usually range from 65–75 lbs and females from 50–65 lbs. They are bred with intelligence, energy, and companionship in mind, making them excellent partners for outdoor adventures as well as loyal family pets.
British Show Goldens, on the other hand, are typically stockier and heavier, with lighter coats and a more traditional “show dog” look. While equally devoted, they often carry a calmer demeanor compared to the more energetic field strain.
At Chinook Goldens, our hearts are especially drawn to the American Field line. We adore their playful, goofy, loyal nature and the way they throw themselves wholeheartedly into both fun and family life. Because many of our pups go to urban homes, we are intentional about pairing dogs that carry the ideal “on/off switch”—full of life outdoors, but also able to settle down and snuggle inside.
In recent years, we’ve introduced a touch of British bloodline into our breeding program, bringing a quiet steadiness that complements the joyful spark of the field strain. Our goal is not perfection—it’s balance. We’re continually striving, as responsible and thoughtful breeders, to raise dogs that are healthy, well-adjusted, and above all, wonderful companions for your life and home.
Goldwing’s Phoenix Boy
CKC Reg. No. FD-GY4034064
DOB: 23-Dec-2019
Phoenix Boy, or ‘Nix, as we usually call this handsome guy has just what we desire in our goldens. You can see the intelligence in the shine of his dark eyes. He comes from excellent pedigrees. If you look on K9data you will see that his father, Goodngold’s Toss Up, held the records for Canada’s championship hunt and obedience trials. He has energy but keeps it very controlled. ‘Nix is my working buddy. He is great with the seniors and anyone else who will accept his friendship. He is exceptionally calm for a young male dog and yet is all boy when we are out in the field. ‘Nix simply is the epitome of what a golden retriever should be. …Well, he does have one fault. Like any brother, he likes to pick on his sister for some reason. We are very excited about adding his bloodlines to our team. ‘Nix is clear in his genetics. You can view the details under K9data. He has eye and heart certification through OFA and also hip and elbows preliminaries done by OFA which were graded as good. So, he’s off to a great start!
Goldwing’s Got A Journey On My Mind
CKC Reg. No FD-GY4034065
DOB: 23-Dec-2019
Journey, as we call her, has the perfect golden retriever temperament. She is darkest of my dogs and has such beautiful intelligent, almost questioning eyes. You just cannot resist her! Her outstanding point is her temperament. She is so gentle and the calmest retriever I have seen, and yet has plenty of stamina and energy for the field. I plan to use her for therapy purposes because she is so patient and connected. On the other hand she would make an excellent hunting dog due to her keenness and drive. She is just a very special dog… She shares the same outstanding pedigree as her brother Phoenix as you will see if you look her up on K9data. She did great on her health clearances and genetic testing.
GJ’s Indian Summer Days
CKC Reg. No. JL4104856
DOB: 21-June-2024
Indi is our smallest little girl. She barely tips the scale at 50lbs. She is a very social, quiet little golden. Indi is athletic and loves the outdoors. On our runs out in the hills she loves to race off some of her energy and then she settles down to a trot behind me. She has all her certifications- eyes, heart, hips and elbows, which you can see on the K9data website. Indi was born in our kennels and is the daughter of Guy William and Rhoda Bree.
Extended Family
We are pleased to introduce our extended family of goldens. We take what we do seriously enough that we want to continue to improve the breed. When we have an exceptional pup born to one of our best females we home it with a carefully selected family. It becomes theirs, but we keep the breeding rights. We are very excited about the opportunity it gives us to improve the breed by carefully selecting and promoting the desired golden genetics. It’s a win-win for the selected family, for us and the lucky girl dog.
GJ’s Dakoda by Storm
CKC. Reg. No. HG3995561
DOB: 13-APR-2020
Dakoda, or ‘Koda as she is called, is one of the most beautiful goldens we have owned. Her father is a British show retriever, Kaiko’s Gift from IDAFAB kennels, and her mom is our Stormy Canyon. She is a perfect blend of the American and British strains of the golden retriever. She has the strong, well chiseled head of the British retriever, and yet not quite so heavy, and the agility of the field retriever. She is very affectionate and a quick learner. She lives in the mountains and loves the outdoors. She is fairly tall and medium in color. She is clear on all her genetic testing as well as heart and eyes. Her PennHIP score is .31 and .51. Elbows are normal on her preliminary report. We look forward to seeing her pups as they should be of some of the best of the breed!
GJs Akita of Scarlet
CKC Reg. No. GU3969092
DOB: 08-Oct-2019
Akita is a favorite with the grandchildren of her caregivers, as you can see. At about 75 lbs she is fairly large for a field retriever. She is dark, has a beautiful strong sculptured head and winning stance of the retriever. Her pups will be good for any direction you want to take them, including therapy or hunting. She has a playful side to her and loves children. She is self assured around other dogs and new situations. Akita’s OFA rating on her hips/elbows are “Good”. As well as her heart and eyes clearances.
Goldwings My Favorite Color Is Autumn
CKC Reg. No. HW4066172
DOB: 27 NOV-2020
Autumn comes from excellent hunting background. We placed her with caregivers that would provide her the opportunity to master her skills with bird hunting. You can see the intelligence radiating from her bright eyes. Autumn is petite, dark, smart and beautiful. She has a lot of get-up-and-go but also can be quiet as you see in the picture. She is a full sister to both Phoenix and Journey, though not a litter mate. Her OFA for her hips is graded as “Good” and her elbows normal. Her heart and eyes OFA certificates are also both clear.
