How to Adopt a Puppy

Bringing home a Golden Retriever is a big commitment—and we want to make sure it’s the right fit for both you and your puppy. Here’s how our process works:

Submit an application

Before applying, please take time to read through our website to learn about who we are, our dogs, and the responsibilities of bringing home a puppy.

Adopting a Golden Retriever is a lifelong commitment, and we want you to feel confident it’s the right fit. Once ready, complete and submit our Adoption Application form.

personal connection

If we feel you may be a good fit, we’ll arrange a personal phone conversation.

If all feels right, we’ll invite you for a visit—ideally with the whole family—so we can get to know you better and match the right pup to your home.

Reserve your puppy

Once adoption is confirmed, a $500 non-refundable deposit secures your puppy.

Puppies are priced between $2,100–$2,500 CAD plus GST, including CKC registration and microchipping.

Adoption day

You’ll receive updates throughout the process, including notices of successful breeding, puppy birth announcements, and weekly photos as they grow.

At 8 weeks old, after vet checks and microchipping, your new puppy will be ready to go home.

Health Guarantee

It is important to us that your experience with one of our Chinook Golden puppies is a positive one. To the best of our knowledge, each puppy is healthy at the time of sale. Our Health Guarantee is as follows:

Healthy Start

Every Chinook Golden puppy is examined by a veterinarian and is guaranteed to be in good health at the time of sale.

Puppies receive their first vaccinations, are microchipped, and have a full physical exam before going home.

This contract is valid only for the original purchaser and is not transferable.

Hip, Elbow & Eye Coverage

We warranty against hip and elbow dysplasia and hereditary eye disease for the first three years of age.

Hips and elbows: X-rays must be taken before 36 months of age and evaluated by OFA. No dog over 36 months is covered. Only OFA readings are accepted. If OFA confirms dysplasia serious enough to require treatment, the buyer may receive a replacement puppy of like quality or reimbursement up to the original purchase price. If the dog has been bred before OFA results are submitted, this portion of the warranty is void.

Eyes: The dog must be examined by a certified veterinary ophthalmologist by 36 months of age. Results must be provided to Chinook Goldens to qualify for replacement.

Exclusions & limitations

Cancer or diseases that cannot be tested for in adult dogs are not covered.

We are unable to reimburse veterinary bills, shipping costs, or other expenses beyond the original purchase price.

Spay/neuter should be delayed until 12-18 months of age.

Right of First Refusal & Registration

If the buyer cannot keep the dog, Chinook Goldens must be given the first right to take the dog back at 50% or less of the original purchase price, depending on the dog’s age and condition.

Under no circumstances may the dog be surrendered to a shelter, pound, or humane society. All registration forms and health clearances must be returned with the dog.

Puppies are sold with Limited Registration (non-breeding), with rare exceptions at the breeder’s discretion.
